Your daily target

How much protein do you need a day?

It depends on your goal and body weight. Protein Tracker multiplies your weight by grams of protein per kilogram, then adds a little for regular training and for age 65+. Here is what that looks like for a 70 kg (154 lb) adult:

GoalProtein per kg70 kg adult
Stay healthy1.2 g/kg84 g a day
Lose fat (keep muscle)1.6 g/kg112 g a day
Build muscle1.8 g/kg126 g a day
Train hard2.0 g/kg140 g a day

When you are losing fat and set a goal weight, the app uses your goal weight so your target doesn't shrink as you lose. This is general wellness information, not medical advice.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is Protein Tracker free?

Protein Tracker is free to download and comes with a free plan, so you can get your personal target, try logging and use the widgets. Protein Tracker Pro, which starts with a free trial, unlocks unlimited logging, photo, barcode and voice logging, saved meals, longer trends and every challenge.

How does the app work out my daily protein goal?

A short quiz asks about your goal, body weight, training and age. Your target is your body weight multiplied by grams of protein per kilogram: from 1.2 g/kg to stay healthy up to 2.0 g/kg for hard training, plus a small bump for frequent exercise or age 65 and over. You can change it any time.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no login. Your protein log is stored on your iPhone, and you can export it as a CSV file or delete it whenever you want.

Is it only a protein counter, or does it count calories too?

Protein Tracker focuses on one thing: protein. That keeps logging fast and simple. If you want to eat more protein, keep muscle while losing weight, or hit a gym goal, it gives you exactly the number you need.

Does it have widgets?

Yes. A Home Screen widget and two Lock Screen widgets show how many grams you have eaten today and how many are left, so you can check without opening the app.

Which iPhones are supported?

Any iPhone running iOS 17.6 or later. The app is available in 19 languages.
